Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my order take to make and ship?

All of the products in the shop are already made and will be shipped within 24-48 hours of receiving your order confirmation email. The items in our shop that are out of stock are made to order and may take up to 3 weeks to ship, based on order volume.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, and PayPal.  During our events, we accept those methods plus cash and check.

What is an end-grain cutting board?

An end grain board means the end, or core, of the wood is facing up rather than the edge, or side, of the wood. This allows the board to absorb knife cuts more easily, meaning its better on your expensive knives and resists cuts leading to less wear on the board.

What type of woods do you work with?

The type of wood mostly used is hardwood: Maple, cherry, black walnut, hickory, and sapelle.

Where do you get your lumber?

Our lumber is locally sourced from lumberyards in Quarryville, Pennsylvania.

Are your products handmade?

Yes! Each item is handmade from start to finish.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes! We consider custom orders on a case by case basis. Email us with your request at contact@thebasementwoodshop.com.

Product Care anchor

Product Care

Please ONLY wash with soap and hot water on both sides, then towel dry and leave to completely air dry standing on its edge. NEVER immerse or soak in water and NEVER clean in dishwasher – This will make the board ‘cup/twist.’  Meat slicing should be done on a separate board from vegetables to prevent bacteria contamination. If you have cut something with a strong smell like garlic or onion, use some white vinegar to de-odor the board.  With stains, scrub with baking soda/salt and lemon, rinse, and then dry completely.

On occasion the cutting boards will become dry and ashy. When this happens, simply apply oil or wood conditioner to the entire dry cutting board. Beeswax will hydrate, shine, and waterproof a cutting board. If the cutting board gets heavily scratched or has a rough feel from washing, it can be sanded smooth again with 220 grit or finer sand paper. Store your cutting board by placing it on edge. If properly maintained, your cutting board will last for years.
